Why You’ll Love This Pineapple Handprint Craft

Before we dive into the how-to, let’s talk about why this craft is so special – because it’s more than just a cute project.

Handprint crafts are a beautiful way to capture a moment in time. Kids grow so fast, and having a little keepsake that’s literally shaped by their tiny hands? That’s something you’ll want to hold onto.

This craft also doubles as a wonderful creative outlet. Choosing sunglasses colors, drawing the smile, mixing and matching – it’s all part of building creative confidence in little ones.

It’s also wonderfully simple enough that even younger kids can participate with just a little help. There’s something in here for every age and skill level.

And if you’re a faith-minded mama who loves finding meaning in everyday moments – creating something beautiful with your child’s hands is a gentle reminder of how uniquely and wonderfully made they are. ✨

Step-by-Step Instructions

Ready to get crafting? Follow these simple steps and you’ll have an adorable pineapple in no time.

Step 1: Print and Cut the Template

Download the Pineapple Handprint Template at the bottom of this post and print it out on regular printer paper.

The template includes the pineapple body shape (oval), the sunglass lenses (trace on black), and the sunglass frame (trace on any color you like).

Trace each piece onto the corresponding colored cardstock and cut them out carefully.

Step 2: Trace the Handprint

Place your child’s hand flat on a piece of green cardstock. Spread the fingers wide, then trace around it with a pencil or marker.

Cut out the handprint shape. This becomes the pineapple’s leafy crown – and the cutest part of the whole project!

Pro Tip: For a fuller, bushier crown, trace and cut out TWO handprints and stack them slightly offset behind the pineapple body. It looks amazing!

Step 3: Draw the Pineapple Texture

Take your yellow oval (the pineapple body) and use a yellow Sharpie or marker to draw a criss-cross grid pattern across it.

This gives it that classic pineapple texture look! Don’t worry about making it perfect – a hand-drawn, slightly imperfect pattern actually looks more charming and authentic.

Step 4: Attach the Handprint Crown

Flip the yellow oval over. Apply glue to the top back of the oval, then press the green handprint onto it so the fingers point upward above the pineapple.

Flip it back over. Now your pineapple is starting to take shape – and it already looks SO cute!

Step 5: Assemble the Sunglasses

Take your black cardstock lenses and glue them onto the colored sunglass frame. Let them dry for a moment.

Then glue the whole assembled sunglasses piece onto the pineapple face. Position them slightly toward the upper half of the oval for the best look.

Step 6: Draw the Smile

Use a black marker to draw a small, simple curved smile just below the sunglasses.

Keep it subtle – just a little upward curve is all it takes. This tiny detail is what brings the whole pineapple to life and makes it look like it has its own personality!

Step 7: Admire Your Work!

Step back and take a look at what you just made. Isn’t it the most cheerful, stylish little pineapple you’ve ever seen?

It really does feel like this little fruit is ready to hit the beach in its shades. 🍍😎

Fun Variations to Try

One pineapple is adorable. But a whole crew of pineapples? That’s a party.

Here are some fun ways to mix things up and make the craft even more exciting:

Mix up the sunglasses colors. Try orange, pink, purple, red – the bolder the better! Each pineapple gets its own little personality based on the frame color you choose.

Make a pineapple garland. Create six or more pineapples, punch a small hole at the top of each one, and string them together on twine or ribbon. Hang it on a wall or across a window for the most cheerful summer decoration ever.

Use two handprints for the crown. Offset them slightly so the fingers fan out in different directions. It creates a lush, full pineapple top that looks extra impressive.

Make it a keepsake. Write your child’s name and the date on the back. Years from now, you’ll treasure looking back at how tiny those little hands were.

Try it as a classroom or group activity. Each child makes their own pineapple with their own handprint crown. Line them all up side by side – you’ll have the most precious gallery wall that celebrates every unique little person in the group.

Make It a Whole Pineapple Theme!

Did you know that June 27th is International Pineapple Day? That makes this craft the perfect activity to celebrate – but honestly, any summer day is a great excuse to make a pineapple.

Pair this craft with a pineapple-themed snack like fresh pineapple chunks or pineapple juice, put on some tropical music, and let the kids craft away. Instant summer party vibes, zero planning required.
